Mess Flix: Double Team

We are kicking off the year with a movie recap for paid subscribers that honestly could not be more Mess or more tailor-made to my particular taste in bad movies. As a massive fan of The Room, Double Team checks all of those same boxes for me of camp high art.

This film was recommended by a reader on Instagram. She did not recommend it for it’s godawful plot, but rather for the Dennis Rodman of it all, who is spectacular to behold at every possible turn. Watching this I also realized I’ve never seen a Jean-Claude Van Damme flick before, which feels egregious, and I now fully get the appeal. The dialogue is mind-numbingly sublime and the stunts are legitimately insane. In fact, my one regret about the screenshot medium is that I can’t share all the best fight tricks in here because they simply demand to be seen in motion. The good news is Double Team is currently streaming on Netflix (not an ad but it should be!), so you can all partake in this late 90s delirium. So many questions. So many UNBELIEVABLE Dennis Rodman costumes. I can’t wait any longer to discuss, so let’s just dive straight in.
